Meshkatian, Kiarostami to collaborate in film and music productions

TEHRAN -- Iranian santur player Parviz Meshkatian and world-famous filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami plan to collaborate in film and music productions.
Meshkatian, who is the leader of the Aref Band, is to give performances at Tehran’s Interior Ministry Hall from November 27 to 30, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Wednesday.Kiarostami will be designing the stage and the posters, brochures, and tickets for the concert.
In addition, Kiarostami is currently making a documentary of the Aref band’s activities, focusing on Meshkatian and his music, and will film the concert at the Interior Ministry Hall as part of the project.
Meshkatian elaborated on the upcoming concerts at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.
He said that the band will be performing old and new works, adding that the old works have never been performed in a live concert.
He went on to say that he has composed the pieces for the concert and will be playing santur, with vocalist Hamidreza Nurbakhsh accompanying the band.
The permanent members of the band are Aiin Meshkatian on daf, Navid Afqah on tonbak, Navid Dehqan on kamancheh, and Hassan Nahid on ney, he said, adding that Keivan Saket, Arsham Qaderi, Bahram Saed, and Siavash Purfazli would also be accompanying the band for the performances.
Meshkatian announced that they will probably give concerts in Shiraz and Isfahan in the near future.
He also expressed hope that the band would be able to again perform with vocalist Shahram Nazeri, as they did in 2004.
